Kiwanis meeting from November 16th
Our guests today were Louise Blessing from the Salvation army and Mark Maxwell from the Aktion Club
The agenda for the followed :
1.Volunteers are still needed for the Holiday Parade and Carriage rides this Saturday. A Social Gathering will take place at McGeady’s after the Parade
2.Sign up sheets are circulating for Bell Ringers on December 17th
3.Dick Sager gave a report on the 1/2 Marathon Special Olympics Fundraiser
4.Don Lutz and President David Thompson went to the Dundee Kiwanis Club this morning for an interclub and told them we will work with them on some of their projects
5.Stacy’s Sparkle’s has their Fundraiser this Saturday at 5:30 at the Plumbers Hall on Detroit Ave
6.Doug Kuras gave a report on the Walk for Warmth and thanked those who pledged monies
7.Susie Cox Grizzle gave a report on the Aktion Club and the projects they are involved in
8.Michelle Germani told the members about the new Community Pride Bus now in service in town for LET
9.The Presidents Holiday/Christmas Party will be on December 10th
10.Volunteers are still needed for the Salvation Army Christmas Party and Shopping Night
11.Kiwanis Lottery Tickets are now out and members are asked to sell as many as they can
12.Poinsettia Sales are due back by next Wednesday 11/23/16. Pick up by members will be on December 5th
13.Debbie Pulling,from the Salvation Army, was inducted today as our newest member
14.The bowling team took 2 points this week
Kathy Vanderbush,Director of the County of Monroe Department of Veterans Affairs,was our guest speaker today.As of the 2014 census there were over 12,000 Veterans in Monroe County.
Kathy helps out in many ways including the following :
a.Health Care
b.Pensions for low income
c.Aid and Assistance for those who qualify
d.Emergency Funding
e.Help for Widows and widowers
f.Burial Help
g.Veterans with PTSD
There also a new plan to help Veterans in legal trouble .
